Skills shortages still a concern

The skills shortage is still a top concern for recruiters, with four out of five (79%) citing a lack of quality candidates as their greatest challenge, according to recruitment software provider Bullhorn’s 2014 ‘UK Recruitment Trends Report’.

Skills shortages have long been acknowledged as a critical problem facing the recruitment sector, although there has been a slight improvement since last year when 81% said it was major issue.

The report revealed 80% of recruitment agencies met or exceeded their 2013 revenue goals and 95% expect an increase in agency revenue in 2014.

Vicky Clark of leading legal recruitment business BCL Legal commented on the report: “We are definitely experiencing a shortage of candidates for many legal disciplines including residential conveyancing, industrial disease, corporate and real estate. There are simply more jobs than there are lawyers to fill these roles. We are working hard with our law firm partners to find solutions to what is becoming an increasingly challenging part of our jobs. Many clients are creating their own training academies and now their need is for trainers and assessors…. The circle continues”
