The search for bright and talented graduates in the legal sector is hotting up…

According to recent research from totaljobs.com around 40% of graduates are looking for work six months after finishing their studies and 25% are still searching a year on.
The barometer data from the final quarter of 2013 revealed a third of graduates apply for more than 20 jobs a month. However, one in six graduates applies for fewer than five jobs a month.
Four in 10 (44%) of graduates surveyed say they regret not studying something more vocational.
Vicky Clark co-founder of bclgraduates.com, a free online service for legal graduates looking for their first step on the legal ladder claims that the situation is not “as black and white” as the 40% figure suggests. “Every graduate is at a different stage, and there are lots of reasons why they delay their job search; not everyone enters the job market straight away. We are experiencing a real surge in our law firm clients seeking paralegals and junior fee earners to work in a range of areas from commercial and real estate to residential conveyancing and personal injury. The market has never been busier for graduates with a bit of experience under their belt be it as an intern or following a voluntary legal placement”.
